OSI Group is currently one of the most historic companies in America and has a great story of how they rose to success. The founder of the company was a German immigrant by the name of Otto Kolschowsky. He came and capitalized on the booming industry that was occurring in Chicago during the 20th century. Otto Kolschowsky opened the market originally to serve the German immigrant community in the Oak Park, Chicago area. The business took off and eventually he started doing business on the wholesale side. The business transitioned over the next two decades into a huge corporation and global food provider giant. The company went from just Otto & Sons to officially the OSI Group.

The company started to increase their production efforts in 1977 by opening up their first facility outside of the city of Chicago. OSI Group opened the facility in West Jordan, Utah. After this many more facilities started to open all over North American in the 1980s. When the company started to grow internationally it was when they hired Sheldon Lavin as the chairman and chief executive officer in the 1980s. Mr. Lavin brought his expertise of international business and negotiating and took OSI Group to the next level. The hiring of Sheldon Lavin is an example of how one individual player on a company’s team can bring so much value and take a company who is already at the top of its game even higher.
