Dr. Saad’s four decades in medical practice has seen him perform numerous complicated surgeries on children within his neighborhood and in nearby communities. He did not limit his medical assistance inside the United States but also travelled to the Holy Land of Israel, where he took part in eight medical missions in Jerusalem including the West Bank to carry out complicated surgeries on less fortunate children without expecting any compensation.
In his life-long career as a pediatric surgeon, Dr. Saad has witnessed the pain patients go through whenever an invasive medical procedure is necessary. He has likewise seen the limitations of technology that inhibits doctors from performing a certain medical procedure. Wanting to help change all that, he invented a catheter and an endoscope that earned him patents for their conception.
Catheter that has an Internal Electromagnetic Location identification Device (Patent #5,727,553)
Physicians or doctors who put catheters inside the body need to know the exact location of the catheter. And to be able to do this the patient must either undergoes a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or an x-ray machine to help determine where the catheter is located exactly. The patient’s regular exposure to the radiation when an x-ray machine is used to locate the catheter is dangerous overtime. And the MRI is quite large, so it is not a handy machine that could be easily transported when needed.
To assist in addressing the dilemma about the catheter’s precise location within the body, Dr. Saad invented a catheter that can be detected by an external device when it passes exactly on top of it. The wires built inside the tube walls that send the signal to the coil located inside the external locating device. So, once the external locator is directly above the catheter the former lights up indicating that the doctor has found the catheter. While Dr. Saad’s catheter invention is ingenious by all aspects, mass production is expensive according to the manufacturers because of its complicated design.
Endoscope with Irrigation and Suction Device (Patent #5,275,478)
Endoscopes are used to see inside the human body when there is a need to perform sigmoidoscopy (observing the large intestines), esophagoscopy (observing at the esophagus), or bronchoscopy (observing the lungs). Dr. Saad’s endoscope invention has a port above the device that washes the front area and draws body liquid away so as not to obstruct the doctor’s view.
Traditionally, endoscopes need to be taken out and cleaned once body fluid clogs up the front area, and after that are reinserted again. Dr. Saad Saad’s invention allows the doctor to proceed with the procedure and finish it at a reasonable amount of time, and the patient does not have to endure the uneasiness of having the peering device reinserted several times.
